Spirit of Bebanas Community in Tilapia Farming

FAP Agri, through its subsidiary PT Bulungan Hijau Perkasa, is committed not only to its business activities but also to corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards the local community around its plantations. Collaborating with IWAKE Oishi Bogor under the guidance of Mr. Agus Wibisono, a direct practitioner in the field of fish farming, is a concrete step in implementing this CSR program. Their primary focus is to provide training and continuous support to the community of Daya Village, Bebanas, Sebuku District, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province.

This tilapia farming initiative originated from the aspirations of the Bebanas Village community through the Original Geographic Indication (IGA) program. The initial step involved conducting a social mapping to identify potential natural resources in the village, including available water and land that could be utilized, as well as market opportunities. With a participatory approach, the community was involved in every stage of the program’s planning, fostering a sense of ownership and strong commitment to developing tilapia farming.

Training sessions were conducted on August 9-10, 2023, covering topics such as an introduction to tilapia farming, both extensive and intensive farming systems, water pH measurement and proper site selection, feeding techniques and breeding, and market studies to enhance marketing effectiveness. Roni Wirayuda, Sustainability Head of FAP Agri, expressed hope that this program would provide tangible benefits to the local community and that the Bebanas tilapia farming group would manage the program well to increase their economic income.

In this session, FAP Agri and IWAKE Oishi Bogor not only provided technical training but also offered assistance in ongoing support and monitoring. The goal is not only to create additional economic opportunities for the community but also to build their capacity and independence in managing fish farming enterprises. Through synergistic cooperation between the private sector, government, and local communities, this CSR program is expected to set a good example in strengthening welfare and environmental sustainability in the region.
