Occupational Health and Safety

FAP Agri’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policy underscores the company’s commitment to the safety and health of its workers and maintaining a safe working environment. With a proactive approach, the company implements the highest standards in risk identification, hazard control, and employee training to ensure a high level of awareness regarding OHS practices. Preventive measures such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the application of safe work procedures are prioritized in every operational activity. Through routine monitoring, risk assessment, and open communication, FAP Agri aims to create a healthy, productive, and sustainable work environment for all its team members.

Throughout the year, the Company has made significant efforts to implement health and safety systems and procedures in its operational environment, with the goal of achieving “zero accidents.” We use the Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Determining Control (HIRADC) method, which involves evaluation and control through five approaches: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This method is used to identify potential hazards associated with work, assess risks, and apply the necessary controls to eliminate hazards and minimize risks as much as possible.

Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS)

Implementing the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is a crucial step for us to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for our employees. Firstly, we must consistently conduct comprehensive risk assessments of all our operational activities, from planting, processing, to product distribution (marketing). This evaluation helps the company identify potential hazards and take appropriate preventive measures, such as using personal protective equipment (PPE) and implementing safe work procedures.

Three of our subsidiaries achieved the Zero Accident Award in 2024 for their success in having no fatal workplace accidents (Zero Fatalities) in their operational areas. To improve OHS performance, the Company carries out the following preventive and promotional programs:

    1. Conducting and updating hazard and risk identification documents.
    2. Communicating OHS through P2K3 meetings and OHS socialization to employees.
    3. Conducting OHS inspections at hazardous locations such as workshops, palm oil mills, generator rooms, chemical warehouses, general warehouses, etc.
    4. Performing internal audits on OHSMS compliance criteria.
    5. Ensuring the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to priority and risk level.
    6. Providing informative socialization through OHS signboards, warning posters, and other interactive socialization methods.
    7. Running clean and healthy living campaigns in residential and workplace areas to prevent Work-Related Diseases (WRD).
Finally, the palm oil company also needs to establish partnerships with external parties, such as occupational safety organizations and relevant government agencies, to support the implementation of OHSMS. This collaboration can provide the company with access to the latest resources and information in the field of occupational health and safety, ensuring that the company always complies with applicable regulations and standards. Thus, the implementation of OHSMS in the palm oil company is not only a legal obligation but also an investment in sustainability and employee well-being.

Enhancing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Human Resources

Supervising the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) within the company is crucial to ensure that our OHS standards are well adhered to and that a safe and healthy work environment is maintained. Here are some steps that can be taken in OHS supervision that we undertake and apply:

    1.  Routine Inspections
Conduct routine inspections across all areas of the palm oil plantation to check compliance with OHS SOPs, equipment conditions, facilities, and the work environment. These inspections should cover all relevant OHS aspects, including hazard identification, PPE usage, and safe layout.
    2. Incident and Accident Reporting
Establish an effective incident and accident reporting system within the palm oil plantation company. Every OHS incident or near-miss should be reported promptly and accurately, with a thorough investigation conducted to identify causes and prevent recurrence in the future.
    3. Training and Socialization
Provide regular training and socialization to management, supervisors, and workers on the importance of OHS, safe procedures, PPE usage, and work safety procedures. Ensure that all workers understand their roles and responsibilities related to OHS.
    4. Management Commitment
Ensure that the management of the palm oil plantation company provides full support for the OHS program and is actively involved in its supervision and implementation. Management should lead by example in adhering to OHS procedures and promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
