As part of our efforts to manage High Conservation Value (HCV) areas, especially those that support biodiversity in protected and conservation zones, we focus on restoring and rehabilitating river buffer zones that were previously cleared or planted. An example of our rehabilitation efforts is the planting of hardwood trees in the Pataq River Conservation Area, covering 3 hectares. The buffer zone along the river is an area with natural vegetation along the water’s edge, which controls erosion and prevents water pollution from agricultural runoff. The company recognizes the ecological value of this buffer zone and ensures that its biodiversity support functions within our concession areas are well maintained. One concrete action is our active effort to preserve and restore the buffer zone by replanting it with native trees and vegetation.
The company complies with all applicable laws and regulations related to environmental protection and conservation. This includes the laws on the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Ecosystems, Forestry, Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction, as well as the Ministerial Regulations on Flora and Fauna Conservation. We are committed to not operating in areas with high biodiversity and not altering natural ecosystems. Our commitment to preventing deforestation is carried out through a comprehensive assessment of areas that can be opened for development (Go Areas). This assessment provides the company with a sharper perspective on how and where to protect dense forests and other buffer corridors. We also adhere to the No Go Area limits identified based on the standards, tools, and assessment teams registered under the “High Carbon Stock Approach”. As of 2022, the company has allocated a total of 11,978.57 hectares of conservation areas within all its concessions as areas that provide ecosystem services. Moreover, the company has not identified any peatlands within its areas and is committed to complying with applicable regulations that mandate sustainable peatland management.
