The palm oil industry is often associated with forest and land fires (Karhutla), which threaten the global environment, including Indonesia. By implementing Best Management Practices, such as land clearing without using fire, the palm oil industry can help reduce climate change impacts and carbon emissions.
Â
In line with Presidential Instruction No. 11 of 2015 on Forest and Land Fire Control, the company is committed to enforcing a Zero Burning Policy in the expansion and replanting of palm oil plantations. We are also actively involved in efforts to prevent and manage forest and land fires to preserve environmental sustainability.
Beyond environmental benefits, the Zero Burning Policy also positively impacts relations with local communities and the company’s reputation. By reducing air pollution and preserving local ecosystems, FAP Agri creates a better environment for nearby communities and reduces potential conflicts related to the negative effects of land burning. Overall, the Zero Burning Policy at FAP Agri’s palm oil plantations represents a responsible and sustainable approach to maintaining environmental health, community well-being, and business sustainability. By committing to reducing burning practices, the company not only meets global sustainability standards but also creates a tangible positive impact on both the environment and local communities.

Efforts to prevent forest and land fires in PT FAP Agri’s palm oil plantations are a top priority for maintaining environmental sustainability and company operations. One of the main steps taken is the implementation of a sophisticated fire monitoring and control system. The company uses drone and satellite technology to monitor land conditions in real-time and identify potential hotspots. This allows for a quick response to detected fires and enables preventative action before a fire develops into a major blaze.
Additionally, in all plantation concessions, we have established firefighting teams that are trained and equipped with the appropriate gear. These teams consist of skilled and experienced personnel who are adept at handling forest and land fires. They are equipped with fire extinguishing equipment, communication tools, and vehicles capable of responding swiftly to any fire incidents in the palm oil plantations.
Education and outreach to workers and surrounding communities are also crucial components of our fire prevention efforts. The company provides training to workers on identifying and reporting potential fire hotspots, as well as on effective fire prevention techniques. Furthermore, we actively engage in outreach programs to communities around the oil palm plantations to raise awareness about the dangers of forest and land fires and the importance of environmental protection.
Sustainable land management is an integral part of our fire prevention strategy at PT FAP Agri’s palm oil plantations. The company adopts environmentally friendly agricultural practices, such as using agroforestry systems, managing crop residues, and regularly monitoring land conditions to prevent drought and reduce fire risks. Overall, our approach to preventing forest and land fires encompasses advanced technology and active community participation. With this holistic and sustainable strategy, we aim to minimize fire risks and support the long-term sustainability of our palm oil plantation operations.
