Community Involvement & Empowerment

The company’s business growth is dependent on the involvement and support of the communities surrounding our concessions. Therefore, the company implements community empowerment programs and provides the necessary support to local communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. This is an effort to manage the impact of our operations and ensure long-term business sustainability while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The company implements CSR programs that support this commitment across various aspects, including economic development, health, community empowerment, and environmental protection.

The company recognizes that implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a noble duty in the effort to create self-reliant and harmonious communities for a better life. This social responsibility role can be sustained with support from all stakeholders, ensuring that its positive impact is felt by the community. Together, we create positive change.

CSR Activities

Our company focuses its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities on four main pillars: economic empowerment, socio-cultural and environmental sustainability, health and education, and infrastructure.

Economic Empowerment

We are committed to creating economic independence in the communities surrounding our concessions. Recognizing that access to information, experience, and capital can be significant barriers to local business development, we strive to bridge these gaps through sustainable and need-oriented programs.

One key initiative is the Income Generating Activity (IGA) program, which fosters collaboration between our company and local communities. The IGA program aims to enhance social and economic welfare by building skills and confidence within these communities. This program includes:

 

  • Technical Skills Development: Providing expert-led training to help communities leverage their local potential.
  • Funding Support: Offering financial assistance to start and expand businesses.
  • Market Access: Facilitating market access through technological approaches.
The IGA program involves developing business ventures in various sectors, such as broiler chicken farming, tilapia aquaculture, cassava and chili cultivation, and local crafts. By focusing on these areas, we aim to drive transformation towards a modern and sustainable economy, while ensuring that business development aligns with social and cultural relevance.

Social, Cultural, and Environmental Initiatives

Our company actively engages in initiatives that enhance the social quality of communities surrounding our operations, with a particular focus on cultural preservation and environmental stewardship. We are proud to report that our support for social, cultural, and environmental themes has increased both in scope and impact over time.
Our support takes various forms, ranging from participation in traditional council meetings and local celebrations to contributions for specific cultural events such as funerals, weddings, and the maintenance of traditional infrastructure. This demonstrates our commitment to preserving and supporting local cultural heritage within our operational areas. In addition to cultural support, we are dedicated to protecting the local environment. Our efforts include safeguarding river buffer zones and restoring forested areas within our concessions. We recognize the importance of river buffer zones in controlling erosion, maintaining water quality, and supporting biodiversity. Through restoration programs, we work to preserve and rehabilitate these zones by planting indigenous trees.
Thus, our company is committed not only to economic development but also to maintaining social, cultural, and environmental integrity within our operational areas.

Health & Education

We have been actively involved in improving the quality of healthcare in the communities around our company. Currently, we manage 13 health facilities (clinics) across our operational areas. These clinics are run by over 30 healthcare professionals, including doctors, midwives, and nurses. The healthcare facilities serve not only our employees and their families but also contractors and the local community. Our health teams regularly conduct health education sessions, immunization programs, health screenings, and free medical treatments for the surrounding community and our employees. Thus, we are committed to enhancing community health as part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives.
In addition to our efforts in improving healthcare, we also support education. We provide assistance to 15 schools with a total of over 1,100 students, including schools located near our operations and those connected with government-supported schools. This support includes over 100 competent teachers adhering to government curriculum standards. We also provide assistance such as educational infrastructure, learning facilities, light rehabilitation of school buildings, scholarships, textbooks, competition support, educational media, office supplies, and teaching support. Through these efforts, we are committed to actively improving the quality of health and education in the surrounding communities, with the aim of creating greater productivity and self-sufficiency.

Infrastructure

We actively participate in enhancing the quality of community access roads, physical building rehabilitation, and the development of public and social facilities. One of the consistent requests from the community to our company is support for opening access roads and improving social infrastructure in nearby villages. The company continuously provides support for upgrading primary community access roads, whether through program proposals or addressing incidental issues like blocked access, based on urgency and capacity.
