Economic Empowerment of Dayak Agabag Chili Farmers

FAP Agri is undertaking an economic empowerment initiative for the Dayak Agabag indigenous community through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program titled IGA. Located in Melasu Baru Village, Sebuku District, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, the collaboration between FAP Agri, Mujagi Farm, Mr. Suhendar, and Mr. Didin has opened new opportunities for local chili farmers. From December 12-14, 2023, they conducted intensive training and mentoring for over 20 participants, offering the latest techniques in high-quality chili cultivation resistant to Plant Pest Organisms (OPT).

From cultivation techniques to the installation of mulch plastic, each training stage builds a solid foundation for farmers to improve their harvest and chili quality. The enthusiastic response from the Melasu Baru community reflects high hopes for positive outcomes from this program. The aim is not only to enhance their welfare but also to foster economic independence beyond the traditionally dominant palm oil sector.

Drawing on the successful experience of Mujagi Farm, Suhendar, and Didin in chili cultivation, the training participants are increasingly motivated to develop their own businesses. With continuous mentoring and business capital support from the IGA program, local residents are being guided to become self-sufficient and sustainable economic actors. This initiative is not just about producing quality chili but also about paving the way for inclusive and sustainable economic transformation for Melasu Baru Village.

Amid efforts to improve welfare and economic independence, Melasu Baru Village hopes to establish itself as a chili center in Nunukan Regency. This goal is not just about meeting local market needs but also about creating sustainable export opportunities and increasing income for the local community. With strong collaboration among various parties, including FAP Agri, the journey towards economic empowerment of the Dayak Agabag community through chili farming appears increasingly promising. Together for a Better Future
